Terms of Service

Last updated: [add date before publishing]

These terms cover the basics of using Prickly Jar App and PricklyJarApp.com — please read them alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your family's information.

Prickly Jar is currently in closed beta testing (Android only). The "Beta Testing" section below applies specifically to this period and will be revisited at public launch.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account, installing the app, or using PricklyJarApp.com, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use Prickly Jar.

2. What Prickly Jar is

Prickly Jar is a parent-led digital token jar: a tool for tracking chores, routines, and behavior with your kids, and letting them redeem tokens for rewards you set. It's built for parents to use with and about their own children — it is not a service that children register for, log into, or use independently.

3. Who can use Prickly Jar

4. Your account

You can sign in with Google, Sign in with Apple, or a Prickly Jar email/password account. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, contact us right away at pricklyjarapp@gmail.com.

5. Beta testing (current phase)

While Prickly Jar is in closed testing:

See our beta testing page for how to join.

6. Acceptable use

Please don't use Prickly Jar to:

7. Your content

The token entries, notes, child profiles, and other information you add ("your content") belong to you. We store and process it to provide the app's features to you — we don't claim ownership of it, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles or sell it, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

8. Not a substitute for professional advice

Prickly Jar is an organizational and motivational tool for families. It is not therapy, medical advice, or a diagnostic tool, and it isn't a substitute for guidance from a pediatrician, therapist, or other qualified professional. If you have concerns about your child's development or behavior, please consult a professional.

9. Our intellectual property

The Prickly Jar name, logo, app design, and underlying software are owned by us. Using the app gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use it for your own family — it doesn't give you any ownership of the app itself.

10. Third-party services

Prickly Jar relies on third-party services to operate — for example, Google Firebase for our database and authentication, and Apple/Google for sign-in. Your use of those sign-in methods is also subject to that provider's own terms. See our Privacy Policy for how information flows between these services.

11. Fees

Prickly Jar is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features or a subscription in the future, we'll tell you clearly before you're charged anything, and this section will be updated to reflect the details.

12. Disclaimers

Prickly Jar is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We don't guarantee the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or available at all times — especially during the current beta period.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Prickly Jar and its creator won't be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months (which, during the free beta, is $0).

14. Ending your account

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time — see our account deletion page for exact steps. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, or that we reasonably believe poses a risk to another child, family, or the service itself.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app grows — especially as we move out of beta, add platforms, or introduce new features like voice assistant integrations. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do, and let you know about material changes.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [state/jurisdiction — confirm before publishing], without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
